What's been happening in Joburg, it makes me feel sick. Where to from here? I have thoughts about this but nothing than makes sense, just twisted up feelings, safely tucked away thousands of kilometres in the other direction.
it is severely upsetting. here in pretoria you can easily differentiate the foreigners from the locals - when everyone's heading home in the early evening the foreigners huddle close together, jogging home in groups of twenty, no lone cubs walking on their own. a zimbabwean acquaintance of mine, a legal immigrant, has had to go stay with some white friends, fearing for his life. and it feels as if we are completely powerless in the face of every complexity this country throws at us.
